Community Services

Borrowing privileges at the Harriet Irving Library, the Science & Forestry Library, the Engineering & Computer Science Library, and the Hans W. Klohn Commons (Saint John) are available to members of the community. Borrowing privileges are granted for individual use and are non-transferable. Access to online resources including databases, books, journals, newspapers and films is available only when visiting a UNB Library.

How to Obtain a Community Borrower’s Card

Resources & Services

  • Basic reference assistance, access to online resources, and collections are available in each library
  • A borrower can have up to 10 items checked out
  • Most books can be borrowed for 3 weeks and renewed up to five times if not requested by another borrower. Some material is restricted to in-library use only.
  • Access to licensed resources is for academic purposes only. Remote, or off-campus, access to most online resources is restricted by license agreements to current UNB/STU students, faculty, and staff only.
  • Fines are charged on overdue loans. Privileges will be revoked if materials are lost, damaged, or consistently overdue.
  • Limited access to Document Delivery Services is available
  • Visiting students, staff, and faculty from participating institutions may borrow from UNB libraries through reciprocal borrowing agreements between institutions

To Access Your Library Account (UNB WorldCat) Online:

  1. Simply follow the “Renew Books” link on the UNB Libraries homepage or the “Sign In” link in the top-right corner of UNB WorldCat. Either of these links will lead you to https://unb.on.worldcat.org/myaccount.
  2. Click the button labelled "COMMUNITY / ALUMNI LOGIN
  3. Your User Name is the full email address you used when you created your account, e.g. some.name@gmail.com
  4. To activate your online access for the first time, you will need to use the “Request New Password” option. Use the link in the email you receive from Library Password Management (DoNotReply@oclc.org) to set/reset your password.
  5. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll find the link to My Account under the user menu in the top right. There you may renew materials.
